Electric Wing Mirror Controls
1988-1993

The Esprit has Electric wing mirrors on some models. These often fail, but rather than replace the expensive motors, you'll normally find it's the control panel that's given up. At over £40, it's not cheap, but it's a lot cheaper than new motors. So if your mirrors aren't working, try this first. You might find it all fixed for the price of the control panel and 15 minutes of your time.

To get at the mirror control panel, you'll need to remove the door panel (see guide). Once this is off, you'll be able to remove the old panel. To do this simply pull out the connectors and push the panel out from behind. As you can see from the pictures above and below the old panel doesn't look like it's worn out from the top. But it's underneath that's the problems. The circuit board has parted company with the switch. This is a very common problem with this part.

 

To replace the new one, push the panel in from above and then plug in the two connectors (different sizes, so don't worry about getting them mixed up).

 

Now all you need to do is to test them and replace the door panel. 15 minute's of your time.

LEW's Verdict

My mirrors were working when I bought my Esprit over 2 years ago (Feb. 2001). They failed sometime after I purchased it, but having set them up, I rarely needed to use them as I'm the only driver. So I'm not sure when they failed, but they haven't been working for quite sometime. I decided as I was doing so much work on my Esprit, it would be a good idea to fix all the little things.

I ordered the control panel and took 15 minutes to fit it. Now my Electric mirrors are working again. A little expensive for the switch, but you can do it yourself and hopefully your mirrors will be working again. It's nice to have the Esprit working as it should, even the little things.
