LEW Official Calendar 2021
Covid makes us break a 17 year run
Unfortunately due to the circumstances we're all experiencing and some small internal issues, the Calendar for 2021 will not be available. Hopefully we'll have a 2022 calendar available next year, so please still submit any pictures you think are good enough for the future calendars. We're sorry to disappoint Esprit owners for 2021, but will try to bring our popular calendar back for purchase this time next year.

Follow along with the rebuild
This is the rebuild of an ex Lotus Engineering Lotus Esprit race car. The Lotus was raced by George Howard Chappell from 1992 to 1994 in 750 Motor Club events winning over a dozen races. Following on from its success it was converted to a Sport 300 race car by then Lotus F1 race engineer George Howard Chappell with the support of Lotus Cars. The Lotus and George have been reunited and supporting George’s rebuild is Classic and Racing taking on various sub assembly build areas as well as assisting with the car build.

Lotus Esprit Mule Hints At The Return Of An Icon
BY MICHAEL GAUTHIER for CarScoops
The Esprit is one of Lotus’ best known models and is still fondly remembered today.

The automaker famously announced a revival a decade ago and promised the car would return in 2013 with a bold new design as well as a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that produced up to 612 hp (456 kW / 620 PS). That obviously never happened, but the company hasn’t given up on the idea of bringing the Esprit back.

Fast forward to today and spy photographers have caught new pictures of the Esprit. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to see as the mule is based on the Evora and features extended wheel arches which hint at a wider track.

The production model will look nothing like this mule as it’s expected to have a modern design which is heavily influenced by the Evija. We can also expect a two-seat interior which is more luxurious and high-tech than the one found in the Evora.

Lotus hasn’t said much about the Esprit, but previous reports have suggested the car is a stop-gap model that will serve as a bridge between the existing Lotus lineup and future models. As a result, it’s expected to ride on an updated version of the Evora’s platform rather than an all-new architecture.

Little else is known about the car at this point, but could use a hybrid powertrain with a V6 engine sourced from Toyota. While a lot of details remain unclear, it’s believed the Esprit will have more than 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS).

The Esprit was originally expected to be introduced next year, but it’s possible the coronavirus could have delayed those plans.

Not really Esprit related, but you can see the Esprit wedge design a bit in some of the cars, so worth a look.

The Lotus Esprit Story
by Big CAR on YouTube
The mid-70’s were an optimistic time for British transport. We got the Triumph TR7 and Rover SD1, the Intercity 125 took us across the country at 125mph, and the thunderous Concorde took us over Mach 2. Britain was proving it could still do amazing engineering. Then there was the Lotus Esprit, turning heads with its crisp, folded lines and supercar styling. By using a tiny engine, it would go on to have the largest power output per litre of any car. And it would clean up so effectively in American motor racing that it was effectively banned from competition. It’s been a Bond car, twice in its amazing 28-year long production run, and Lotus keeps tantalising us with glimpses of what it will be in the future.

The Aston Martin Bulldog Story
Not an Esprit, but like the Delorean, an interesting story
The Bulldog was a science-fiction supercar not penned by Bertone or indeed any Italian design house. And it didn’t come from an Italian car manufacturer. This was Britain’s, and specifically Aston Martin’s answer to Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini’s increasingly wild 1970s supercars. And it had supercar speed, with a reputed top speed over 200mph (321km/h) from a 600hp (447kW) engine. So what happened to this amazing car, and when can we expect a new supercar from Aston?

The Pop-up Headlights Story
From Little Car on YouTube
1936 was a great year to be alive, because the first car appeared with pop-up headlights – quite possibly the best thing to happen to headlights since someone thought to use a light bulb instead of a gas light. They appeared simultaneously on two cars – the Italian Alfa Romeo 8C, and the American Cord 810. You had to manually wind them up and down using a handle on the dashboard. At the time they were a handy way of streamlining the front of the car, producing an aerodynamic shape that mimicked racing cars of the day, although the streamlining advantage was negligible.

Lotus Esprit S2 - New Project Car!
granblogismo
I'm super excited to reveal my new project car, a Lotus Esprit S2! This single owner 30k original mile car is in awful shape but hopefully I’ll be able to restore it to its former glory with a bit of luck and help from other YouTube channels such as ‘Soup Classic Motoring’ who are undergoing similar work albeit with better presentation and artistic flair than me. I hope you like it and hopefully I’ll be able to bring you some interesting content during the restoration!

A closer look at my 'barn find' Lotus Esprit S2, a single-owner, 30k mile car recently recovered from over 20 years in storage. In this video I review the interior, bodywork and engine and what might have to be fixed.... spoiler alert... its everything! Hope you enjoy the video and any advice for jacking the car or where to start is greatly appreciated!!

Car Review – Lotus Esprit V8
Brown Car Guy
#FlashBackFriday to my review of the Lotus Esprit that I did in 2015 for Motoring Middle East. This was a V8 and I drive it with its then owner Matt Denton. The Esprit is quite simply my all-time favourite car, and typically I can barely contain my excitement as I get behind the wheel - LOL.

Spiritual successor to Lotus Esprit reportedly coming in 2021
MARCH 16, 2020
Lotus is just putting the finishing touches on its bespoke Evija hypercar, and will then launch one final model based on the bonded and riveted aluminum platform underpinning its current lineup before switching to a new platform capable of supporting battery-electric powertrains.

Autocar reported on Monday that the new model will be a supercar in the same vein as the Esprit but the two may not share the iconic nameplate.

The car will reportedly fill the wide performance gap between the Evora and Evija thanks to a new hybrid powertrain utilizing a V-6 as its internal-combustion component.

The V-6 in question is likely the Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter mill used in the Exige and Evora sports cars. The engine produces 416 hp in the latest Evora GT so with electrification we could be looking at something closer to 500 hp.

The new car was originally due in 2020 but Autocar reported that we'll now see it in the first half of 2021.

Lotus came close to launching a modern Esprit early last decade, including rolling out a concept at the 2010 Paris International Motor Show and developing a bespoke V-8. The project was axed in 2014 after Lotus made major reforms to prevent financial ruin.

Lotus is on a very different footing these days thanks to the support of Geely. The Chinese auto giant is committed to rebuilding Lotus' image after decades of malaise by renewing the lineup and taking the brand racing. We also know that future Lotus cars will source engines from fellow Geely brand Volvo.

Beyond the Evija and new supercar, Lotus will redesign the Elise, Exige and Evora around its new platform. An SUV is also in the pipeline and possibly a modern Elan, too..

The DeLorean Story
Big Car
There’s much more to the DeLorean Motor Company than Doc’s 88mph time machine in “Back to the Future”. It’s a story of a playboy founder with a meteoric rise, a story of hope and regeneration in an area torn apart after a decade of fighting, and of a cocaine smuggling fall from grace. Yes, this story has it all.
