Bond Car Tops Movie Poll

19.08.2005

The Spy Who Loved Me has won out in a poll of films with memorable cars. James Bond's 1977 movie outing sees Roger Moore's 007 drive his Lotus Esprit into the sea.

Back To The Future, where a 1981 DeLorean travels back in time, was placed second in the survey.

Next came Starsky And Hutch's Ford Torino, followed by the VW Beetle in Herbie: The Love Bug and the voice-activated Batmobile in Batman.

The survey was commissioned by online DVD rental service LoveFilm.com.

A spokesman said: "It's always the actors that take the glory for a great movie, so we felt it was about time the cars were recognised for their roles, too."

Sixth most popular film car was the 1968 Ford Mustang driven through San Francisco by Steve McQueen in Bullitt. Ranked seventh was the Dodge Monaco on display in The Blues Brothers, while the Mercury Custom in Grease filled eighth spot. Completing the top 10 were the 1959 Cadillac ambulance in Ghostbusters and the 1975-77 AMC Pacers driven by the two fugitives in Thelma And Louise.
