Lotus Elan M100 (1990 - 1995)
The type M100 Elan was produced in what has subsequently become known as 'Series 1' form, between January 1990 and July 1992, and in Series 2 from July 1994 to August 1995. Series 1 models were produced in naturally aspirated (N.A.), non-catalyst turbo, and catalyst turbo form with driver's side supplementary inflatable restraint (S.I.R.) available for the USA and some other left-hand drive markets.
USA type S.I.R. equipped cars use a chassis differing in consturction detail at the front, with a correspondingly modified body using a marginally extended nose. The rear body section on these cars also differs in the contruction and the attachment of the rear aerofoil, a feature which is referred to as a 'stage 2' body. Note that the N.A. model was produced only in right-hand drive U.K. form, with a total of 129 built, whereas approximately 3,726 turbo S.E. cars were produced in various configurations for worldwide markets. All Elan Series 2 models are non-USA type catalyst turbos, of which there are approximately 800 cars.
